The EmQuartier and Quartier CineArt will hold the “Italian Film Festival Bangkok 2017” in cooperation with the Embassy of Italy and the Dante Alighieri Cultural Association, within the framework of the Italian Festival in Thailand 2017 and with the invaluable support of Generali Thailand as Official Sponsor and in cooperation with Benetone Films.

The IFFB 2017 will screen seven critically-acclaimed Italian movies under the Artistic Direction of Maurizio Mistretta of Dante Alighieri Association. They are: “The Invisible boy”, “I, Harlequin”, “God Willing”, “Perfect Strangers”, “Like Crazy”, “The Francigena Path” and “Feather”. All movies will showcase a contemporary image of Italian culture through the quality of its best cinematographic productions, with genres ranging from Comedy to Drama, from Science Fiction to Documentary.

The Festival’s launch will be on Tuesday 12th September 2017 at 18.30 hours at EmQuartier Helix Garden with His Excellency, the Italian Ambassador to Thailand, Mr. Francesco Saverio Nisio, presiding over the opening ceremony, together with Thai-Italian actress Preem Ranida Techasit, followed by a screening of the movie “Like Crazy” (La Pazza Gioia). A 2016 Italian comedy film, it tells the story of two women from different backgrounds who become friends while being treated at a mental institution. This movie was screened in the Directors’ Fortnight section at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.

On the occasion of the “Italian Film Festival Bangkok 2017”, the Italian Embassy and Dante Alighieri Association will also organize three important collateral events:

1. Italian-Thai 90 seconds short film competition, in cooperation with Benetone Films, open to filmmakers and aspiring filmmakers in Thailand, Thai National and Expats. It encourages to discuss and produce 90 seconds short films on the topic “COLOUR OF ITALY”, where “Colour” is used in a broad sense to represent the feel, the touch, the smell of Italy in the daily life of Thai people.
2. Roundtable on film distribution and co-production on the promotion of Italy and Thailand as “locations” for film-making by the two countries, on the 14th September 2017 at the Italian Embassy (by invitation only).
3. Workshop on Italian cinema organized by the Dante Alighieri Association in collaboration with Chulalongkorn University on 16th September.
